Helping Community Health Centers Provide Cost-Effective Patient Services

Community Health Ventures (CHV), the business development affiliate of the National Association of Community Health Centers (NACHC), helps CHCs operate more efficiently by providing unique health-center focused purchasing and business programs.

The RCHN Community Health Foundation and NACHC share the objective of fostering the ability of CHCs to provide essential services to their patients in a cost-effective manner. Community Health Ventures, Inc., which was founded in 2000 by NACHC, creates practical solutions to the tremendous economic pressures facing today's community health centers. CHV works to obtain better products, pricing, contractual terms and services for CHCs, and support the development of business models that will enable the continued provision of high- quality care. The Foundation has invested in CHV to enable it to expand the endeavors it undertakes for the benefit of CHCs.

CHV focuses on three lines of business, each related to a critical health center need:
  • Value in Purchasing (ViP), which negotiates group-purchasing agreements at preferred rates for medical, dental and office supplies, and for capital equipment. These agreements allow health centers to leverage their buying power, and create savings that can be reinvested to support health center operations

  • Access RxS, which provides turn-key support for managing and implementing the Federal 340(B) pharmacy discount program

  • Technology Support Program, which offers information technology applications to enhance workflow and increase productivity
CHV is working to:

  • Consolidate the CHC market by leveraging collective purchasing power through negotiation with the CHC network, and development of additional marketing efforts

  • Enhance and expand current product lines, including ViP and Access RxS

  • Explore new opportunities to achieve additional savings for CHCs through options for capital and financing, development of pharmacy alternatives, and national insurance options
