Workforce Initiative.

Background
Workforce requirements, supply, and shortages have been important and ongoing considerations for the health care industry. National health reform efforts through the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will expand the number of individuals with health insurance in the United States, and bring heightened focus to the need for primary care access. This, in turn, is expected to increase demand for health care services and drive the need for additional providers and expanded capacity. The increase in both access points and providers, including physicians, physician assistants, and nurse practitioners, will be accompanied by an increased need for all levels of staff, including mid- and entry-level workers. Yet recruitment and retention remain substantial challenges, especially with respect to entry-level administrative, clinical, and allied health workers trained to meet the growing demand for care. Helping CHCs to address these challenges quickly, effectively, and creatively is the objective of the Foundation’s initiative.
