A new Health Center Data Insight by the Geiger Gibson/RCHN Community Health Foundation Research Collaborative at Milken Institute School of Public Health shows that for the six-year period 2010-2016, community health centers nationwide experienced a growth in patients served of one third, or 33%.

The new Data Insight, based on data from the Uniform Data System, provides the compelling figures for the nation as a whole as well as for individual states and the U.S. territories, underscoring the important role of community health centers across the country.

Whether measured by growth in patient numbers or as a percentage increase in total patients served, the health center patient surge was evident nationwide, in both ACA Medicaid expansion and non-expansion states, suggesting that both the adoption of the ACA Medicaid expansion and the Affordable Care Act’s health center fund have been essential in extending care to underserved communities.
